Ulepsi

The tank support system, ULEPSI, was especially designed for cargo tanks in tanker vessels that transport hot, liquid products such as asphalt, coal tar and creosote. In connection with viscosity, these products need to be stored at high temperatures. The tank walls are therefore exposed to temperatures of 200 °C and more. To prevent stress as a consequence of temperature differences between the cargo and the seawater, the tanks are placed on special ULEPSI tank supports.

ULEPSI tank supports comprise a steel casing, containing rubber EPDM sheets and silicone rubber and a top layer of glass-filled plastic. The layered and pressure-resistant construction ensures that the temperature is reduced gradually to an acceptable level, which absorbs the stresses resulting from high temperature differences between the tank wall and seawater.

The ULEPSI tank support construction not only guarantees gradual temperature reduction but is also pressure resistant, enabling the construction to absorb the significant weight of the cargo tanks. ULEPSI tank supports are approved for maximum loads of 32 tonnes. The ULEPSI layers are supplied in sheets sized 200 x 200 mm and 350 x 350 mm. The maximum load for one tank support is 98 tonnes.
